The Ascent of Rum Doodle
The Ascent of Rum Doodle is a fantastic book I've recently read about a spoof mountaineering expedition. A British written comedy that follows the ingeniously dopey adventures of some men ascending Rum Doodle, a 40,000 and one 1/2 feet high mountain. It was first published in 1956 and written by W.E. Bowan. Rum Doodle is also a restaurant in Kathmandu that serves as a popular meeting place for Himalayan mountaineers.
I was sent this for my birthday last August and felt it high time I shared it. It's a book that I think is growing in popularity and notoriety, especially after Bill Bryson endorses it in the introduction.
